As we near the final days of Lent and the most solemn days of Holy Week, I have a very special Interactive Sight Word Reader to share with you as a freebie. My newest reader, "Jesus had a Holy Week" provides an overview of the important events and days of Holy Week: Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter Sunday.
Although, the word "Jesus" doesn't appear on the Dolch or any other traditional sight word list, it IS a high-frequency work in my Catholic kindergarten classroom. My students read the word "Jesus" several times a week in our daily religion instruction. This year, my classroom activities during Holy Week will help my students read and write the word "Jesus" independently while they learn about the events in Jesus' life which led up to Easter Sunday.
Just like all of the Interactive Sight Word Readers in my TpT store, students cut out and unscramble letters to spell a particular word (in this case "Jesus" - included in the packet) then glue the letters in the correct order on each page of the booklet. The pages of this emergent reader are filled with simple, repetitive text and age-appropriate graphics for students to color that depict the major events of Holy Week. Once the book is complete, it is the perfect addition to a child's book box or daily reading homework.
